From soccer player to superhero in the blink of an eye…

Teenaged Cody Lopez was playing soccer one afternoon when, from a clear blue sky, a bolt of lightning struck him and knocked him unconscious; when he came around, he was surprised to find himself not on the soccer pitch but in a temple high in the Himalayas. The Buddhist lamas explained to Cody that he had been chosen to receive mystical powers provided that he agreed to use them to uphold the right and thwart the designs of the unjust.

Cody readily agreed and spent the next several months in training, learning how to use his strange new metahuman abilities to aid the forces of good (including the Tibetan incantation he must recite to transform from his normal self to the superpowered Lightning Lama). When his training was complete, the lamas bade him farewell…

…and Cody found himself again flat on his back on the soccer pitch. Although it seemed to Cody that he’d been away for months, he’d actually been unconscious for just a few seconds.

By an odd coincidence Cody’s twin brother Sam also became the recipient of strange metahuman powers around the same time. The brothers were determined to use their abilities to help people rather than for personal gain, and decided to start by cleaning up Silver City’s illegal drug trade as costumed heroes: Sam in the guise of The Wraith and Cody as the Lightning Lama. After joining forces with their father, retired 1980’s metahuman hero Deep Freeze, and a metahuman schoolmate (Nightfang), the quartet battled crime in Silver City for three years as Junior Justice, an adjunct of the world-famous Justice Federation.

The twins have since gone off to college and have curtailed their superheroic activities while they pursue their degrees. On the rare occasions that they do venture forth in costume, they’re now known as the TNT Twins.
