I’m pretty sad. I just got the news a few minutes ago that Elisabeth Sladen died today.

Elisabeth was one of my favorite Dr. Who companions. The first episodes I ever saw when I was a kid were from the Pertwee era, and Sarah Jane Smith (as played by Elisabeth) was the companion in those shows.

I had such a crush on this woman when I was thirteen, and when I later saw the reruns on PBS in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s I was still rather taken with her. Even though I haven’t watched any version of the show in ages, I can still hear Ms. Sladen’s delightful voice and I still smile when I remember her as the lively vivacious counterpoint to the generally dour third Doctor. She was quite a doll!

Goodbye, dear lady. You’re fondly remembered — always.
